Oh my goodness we’ve been so busy!
We moved into the house on New Year’s Eve and spent the entire weekend cleaning and cleaning and more cleaning. I’m not exactly sure how long the house has been vacant for, or if the previous owner ever gave it a good scrub down, but it was long overdue for a nice sudsing.
My parents, bless their generous hearts, were there to help every day. We wanted to make the most of the time that the kids were at the other set of Grandparents’ (bless their generous hearts as well!) so we worked day and night. I know we wouldn’t have completed the amount of projects without them.
We started in the kids’ rooms. I figured that maybe the transition would be a little easier for them if their rooms were pretty much exactly as they left them in the old house. Meaning, “mama hopes they sleep!!”
Olive’s room is a gorgeous dark grey with teal and purple accents. I could sit in her room all day and rock in her chair. As we’re painting her room, I’m discovering that the room was originally a very bold blue, covered up by some neutral beige, then covered with Ollie’s grey. And the paint we got wasn’t great, so two coats it was. And that there’s some kind of weird paint on the trim that made it take two coats too. Aaaaaaaand that maybe there was some kind of animal that used to live in that room because the molding was scratched to hell. Still haven’t fixed that but it’s on the list.
Her room still has a little ways to go. I’m boarder line terrified to change out her electrical outlets – they’re an awesome dirty cream color (with some of the bold blue caked on them) and we’ve gotten shiny new white ones. I fear I will be electrocuted. We can’t seem to find her art and wall hangings. They’re in a clearly marked box but that box must be under another box that’s under another box. I’m also not sure if we’re going to be able to afford to scrape her popcorn ceiling now or later so her tissue paper fluff ball mobile will stay tucked away in her closet for now. I can’t wait to put the finishing touches on it!
